Sonia investigates and litigates white collar matters and complex civil disputes.
Sonia has represented domestic and multinational corporations, as well as individuals, in high-stakes commercial disputes in U.S. federal courts and international arbitrations arising from cross-border business transactions. Her practice focuses on complex, fact-intensive matters with significant financial and legal exposure.
Sonia has served as counsel in international arbitrations conducted under the rules of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the Netherlands Arbitration Institute (NAI), and the Centre de Médiation et d’Arbitrage de Paris (CMAP). Her experience includes representing a global reinsurance company in a more than $1 billion arbitration governed by French law; a Singapore-based biotechnology company in a multimillion-dollar dispute against a European pharmaceutical company; a private client in a complex multibillion-dollar trust dispute involving court proceedings across multiple U.S. and foreign jurisdictions; a U.S.-based international publishing and media company in a dispute against a China-based corporation concerning trademark and copyright misuse; and a U.S.-based technology company in an arbitration against a Japanese counterparty involving patents, trade secrets, and employee noncompete issues.
She also maintains an active pro bono practice, with a focus on immigration matters and cases brought under the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction.
Sonia is fluent in French and Mandarin and proficient in Spanish. While at Yale Law School, she served as Managing Editor of the Yale Journal of Law & Feminism and Articles Editor of the Yale Journal of Health Policy, Law, and Ethics. She also served as an intern in the Family Defense Practice at Brooklyn Defender Services. Prior to joining Clark Smith Villazor LLP, Sonia was an associate at a large international law firm.
